The idea is, Pokemon are naturally cool, even with these flaws, but the flaws are little touches that help give them more texture and character to not appear TOO cool. It helps them not feel too overly tailored. The designs then benefit from feeling more natural, and appreciable from different angles (Luxray, for example, can be appreciated for its coolness, or a perceived softer side.)
