I would love it if characters had more clothing instead of their definitive outfit.
Especially if they’re involved in the story like Cynthia in a beach house should we’re more idk beach attire.

Full art if anyone's curious.
Seems like a lot of Gym Leaders from Gens 1 - 3 dress pretty plainly. It was Gen 4 that really started making their outfits reflect the Type they use.

Misty clearly is a Water trainer, Winona clearly is a Flying trainer, Bugsy is clearly a Bug trainer, etc.. it's always been a thing to have some characters reflect their type. Gen 4 doesn't even fully follow this - Gardenia and Candice aren't overtly their type, and Volkner and Flint are as much of their type as Wattson and Flannery.

HGSS redesign fucking sucks. Yeah, Morty is a ghost gym leader, so he has to dress up in a very apparent ghostly costume. How else would you know he's a ghost type gym leader! It's just as egregious as that new sv gym leader that has fucking thorns as hair and thorns all over his body. It's so stupid

From Gen 1 alone, I could only tell you what Misty and MAYBE Koga are gym leaders of from their designs.
From gen 2, I think maybe bugsy but only due to his net and chuck.
