For all of their faults, I think SWSH unironically did a solid job at implementing the Battle Tower and Restricted Sparring. Breeding / training is easier than ever. Difficulty in the Battle Tower is set low enough that you can get away with running whatever you want as long as you put some thought into team comp, though I get that some people will choose to steamroll it with top tier picks.
Restricted Sparring is simply a neat challenge. I’ve been building teams built from Kanto/Johto mon to beat each 5-streak (having to use single evolutionary lines / regional forms for some types), and it has been a lot of fun. Just beat Normal with Eevee, Persian, and Porygon 2.
I really wish they’d put together a team to build a dedicated battle sim with facilities and rentals. I loved the Stadium games growing up, and I think this type of game would be the perfect opportunity for them to actually deliver quality animations again, even if they had to gradually release new waves of pokemon to the game.
