In this particular case, because 90% of the community was familair with NA version, this is most accepted state of things. So unless you manage to infor all of them about the fact their opinion might be incorrect it does not matter.

Not every dialogue line has to be take in the context of the game world. Sometimes, wirter wants to make dialogue funny, but he hasnt established enough of the universe setting to do it in-place, natively, so he resorts to reader's understanding of the joke's context in real world. Yes, this may end up with breaking suspension of disbelief but if this is not considered to be an issue then writers often go for it. In fact, it is even illustrated in the approximated english translation:
