Nobody brings up the fact that Ash nerfed himself by not using his older Pokémon. Not Sceptile the Darkrai killer. Not CHARIZARD from KAAAAANTOOOO who took down an Articuno. The only plot armor regarding Cynthia's fights is how she was nerfed. How the fuck do you want to justify Diantha being a counter to Cynthia when the anime was retarded enough to give her Garchomp 3 dragon moves? The strongest of which she didn't even use against Mega Lucario.

Lets talk about writing. The writers always knew the outcome of the battle, they knew Ash needed to win to get to Leon. Now, ask yourself, why couldn't they write a fight that showcases Cynthia's full potential against Ash? They had two "good" reasons, and by good I mean retarded. The first is that they didn't want to take away from the climax against Leon, so they couldn't have Cynthia's fight be better than the one against Leon. The second is that they didn't want Cynthia fans to feel like she is weaker than Leon because she was the most popular contestant, people were more hyped up about Cynthia's fight than Leon's, so they purposefully made the fight change with a surprise Ash turnaround so that it can always be dubious if Cynthia's full potential can match Leon's or if Ash wasn't just lucky to have won against her, that way, no one would be mad. The writing of the fight has its merits, but it was executed poorly and the climax was boring and forced. You can say whatever you want, it will never change the fact that the anime writing has done Cynthia dirty.

When taken into consideration that she did end up using it against Iris, no it doesn’t make it look good. They didn’t save her reputation by having her mega evolve during the wrong match and still not immediately sweeping her. There is little doubt mega Lucario couldn’t take out mega Garchomp since they tried to showcase Iris’ growth and Cynthia being strong at the same time and it just messed with the whole narrative. The only people who believe otherwise that Lucario wouldn’t have one are Cynthiafags in denial. You know how many excuses everyone could make here?
