You do realize that such thing was the thing that should had also happened in the games, right? Before this franchise got irreparably damaged, as it is now.
You should had been able to use the three mechanics. You should had been able to use all the pokemon you wanted.
But, this is the future you chose, and the anime's showing you what could had been. Fret not, that will also be discarded when ash goes to Paldea.

They made Leon so overpowered that it's only believable for Ash not to get swept by him.

And even with all of that, Leon has still has three completely healthy Pokemon left, while Ash's remaining four have all taken damage. And even taking out three of Leon's Pokemon was an accomplishment, since it was stated that up until this point, he's never lost more than two in one battle.
