I've never liked level scaling because it removes a sense of progression. You're never too strong or too weak so you lose that intrinsic reward of getting stronger because everything else does as well.
I'd rather stumble into the wrong area and get fucked by a high-leveled Pokemon/trainer than not having that possibility, simply because it would motivate me to come back later when my team has gotten stronger.

If you want to bee line to Victory Road and catch a lvl 40 stage-1 pseudo, go ahead. You’re comparing a speedrun to what an average player would do. That’s absolutely not even close to how most people would play it. And the movesets may be improved in BDSP, but keep in mind that you’ve got a pretty good range of updated moves for Pokémon too. Just because they changed some movesets doesn’t mean they’re instantly better if they can still be steamrolled over by playing the game normally. EVs and other stuff don’t mean shit when you’re ten levels higher than a good chunk of the elite 4 at endgame.

I prefer the hands-off method and allowing people to ruin the game for themselves by capturing a high level Pokemon if they want, but it's understandable why they'd want to eliminate the possibility, especially after PLA where it was basically impossible to avoid this if you gave the slightest shit about exploration and catching Alpha Pokemon ASAP. Again, there's no point in letting you choose the order of anything if you have to do the gyms to catch stronger Pokemon. If that's the case then the other two stories might as well be postgame. They've spent a lot of time saying that this game is NOT about becoming Champion, it's about the Treasure Hunt, which all three stories are a part of. not

If you're going to do an action thousands of times during normal gameplay, slowing it down with an extra button press is seriously bad UX design.

In terms of mechanics, sure, it introduces just about everything you'll need. That's not content. The equivalent will likely be the first few hours, introducing the grunt battles, Terastel raids, Titan battles, and a battle with a gym leader that uses a Terastel Pokemon. You'll also get your ride Pokemon during that few hours. It'll be way shorter than the time it takes to beat all eight gyms.

The issue is that you can't explore naturally and catch Pokemon at your leisure, presumably for the sake of balance. I get why they'd want to avoid this since PLA was an unbalanced mess for this exact reason, but at the same time it's just pretty lame, especially for a game touting itself as an open world experience.

It's false advertising to drum up preorders because they knew after the shitstorm of SS's reveal they had to work on their marketing. There's a badge for each type but that is beside the point. I want to challenge myself. If I can weaken that level 67 Psuedo legendary 20 minutes into the game with some kind of cheese session then I should be able to cheese. Open world titles often do have some kind of structure but freedom is just as important.

tbf the last pokemon game I played was sumo and I'd like to play a new one but this just ain't looking like it. locking to levels isn't good game design, from basically an outsider looking in, I would think they should fix the root problem instead.

Why? Why don't they put in the sliver of effort to accommodate more players. They had a way to turn it off in XY and SM, but they were too lazy to implement it in SS. It's the same story every time with GameFreak, have a thing, be lazy, next game they don't bother doing it. At what point do you stop acting like a battered housewife and actually say "no, you're the owners of a the most profitable media franchise in the world, and billionaires; take some of that money and use it to pay people so your product isn't the equivalent of an indie game full of cut corners." Pokemon has the potential to be so much better than it currently is; we know this 100% definitively because for the first for the first 13 years of its life IT WAS BETTER THAN IT CURRENTLY IS. I'm not asking much; I'm not asking them to make something mind blowing. I'm asking them to just match the quality they've already shown they're capable of, if they're not lazy.

Because now they have the box anywhere feature. Iirc there is a dev interview on this with masuda where he says forced exp is a good thing and you can put pokemon in the box if you don't want them to get exp.
It made BDSP a shit show because it wasn't made with exp all in mind so I ended up with a different team for underground and capturing

That mentality only lasts for so long. You'll go watch it and buy the toys anyway was the thinking behind Star Wars, until it wasn't. Now Disney has a $4B albatross around their neck and won't recoup the cost faster than if they had just invested the money instead. Long term fans like me that used to religiously buy the games aren't buying the new ones. I'm not introducing them to my kids. Yes, there are new customers coming in, but if you spit on your existing customers enough, eventually you lose more faster than new ones can come in. Heck, the fact that SS sold +25% more than its previous game when every other Switch entry in long running series saw +100% to +200% more should be troubling. A 35M unit Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch should have been a layup. Instead they limped out barely more sales than SM + part of USUM.

Star Wars doesn't have a competitive circuit that's kept alive regardless of whatever you don't like about a game between getting your starter to beating the game. They could never fix the EXP Share, continue making strides towards making the gateway to competitive mons easier to access via Mints, Hyper Training, etc., and that is a satisfiable outcome, because to some people the story mode is nothing more than a means to an end.
