In the sub it was Taichi who pushed Sora to ask out Yamato since he knew she had feelings for him. There s strain between their interaction, but it might be due to Taichi coming to terms with the fact that Sora is no longer "One of the Boys" since she fully embraced her femininity by this point.
In the dub it's outright stated that Sora just chose Yamato and Taichi is clearly upset about that.
