IIRC, it was the team working on the game under his (Morimoto's) leadership that got annoyed with him putting so much effort and content into what was supposed to be a filler remake.

It's funny how hard he BTFO the jews at TPCi/Nintendo, because he said in an interview that it was really just a quick passion project that he himself requested to make while the other team was working on BW... and then it ended up actually being what is widely considered the peak of Pokémon even nowadays.

Since then, Morimoto has been chained to his computer doing fuck all about the battle system which he is supposedly the director of. They probably don't want him anywhere near a leadership role ever again because of HGSS lol

Made to be the ultimate sequel, and possibly last in the franchise (in its current form at least). It wasn't perfect but they put as much as they possibly could into the game.

Gamefreak actually cared about making decent product over the "they'll buy it anyway make it as cheap as you can get away with to maximize profits" business model back then.

People would still consider Gen 4 the peak, due the break in quality that happened after it
Also I think Mario is yet another beast, since you have the franchise split between the 2D-based platformers and the 3D-based platformers.
pretty sure SMW is the peak in 2D-based, and 3D-based is the one that's really contested.

Those drops are a lot less bad. You lose those Sinnoh pokemon for stuff like Electabuzz/vire, Magmar/mortar, Gallade, etc. All fun mons.
Crystal drops some interesting pokemon and you don't get much in return. Crystal makes some stuff appear earlier, but makes others postgame for no reason to the game's detriment.
Crystal is an improvement over GS in lots of ways but for actual teambuilding I have to go with GS.

Crystal has some mons earlier, but completely misses some mons
Therefore it's worse than HGSS in that regard.
