Screen time is a big reason. Just about every companion has battles with ash for training and so Brock just has more of that under his belt.
Worth noting that his exp trying to be a pokemon doctor and cooking for everyone means that he has probably been good at raising a lot of the different mons he has picked up.

In order to make Ash look better most of his companions are ridiculously weak.
I guess Iris is the strongest, or maybe Misty. They at least can do something in battle.

Iris's lack of buildup was the shittiest thing ever.
She never showed interest in the whole league thing.
