Just missed my first shiny in PLA

it's my first time playing a Pokemon game in a long time, I saw a brown Starly in the Fieldlands only 10 hours in or so, and I chucked some balls at it without thinking and it flew away. sad. :(

No, they're one of the most common shinies in Legends as they're on almost all the maps. I've found 5 or 6 starly/staravia myself up to I benched it due to Splatoon.

If you complete the dex entry (research level 10) then the BASE odds for that species goes to 1/2048, so two times more common than usual
That's why shinyhunters hate this game, btw

I pretty much filled my Sinnoh shiny living 'dex using it. The only shinyhunters that hate it are the type who seethe Game Freak reduced the odds from 1/8192. The rest of us kinda find that jingle addicting.

i perfected shinxs dex entry day 1 and never saw a single shiny then postgame i spent several days flying around the field on a route where you could see at least 20 shinx every 5 minutes, exiting to the town every unsuccessful run, and including several outbreaks, and it took me 10+ hours (over a few days, not all at once) to finally find a shiny shinx. i was beginning to think my game was broken because it seemed ridiculous when it shouldve been as you said an easy shiny. im not a hunter anymore but i used to be, and this was ridiculous for me to the point where it felt like a real full odds hunt again

Turn off auto-save, and when you see a shiny, IMMEDIATELY save. This will allow you to never lose another one again, UNLESS you see one in a distortion, because you cannot save those. For Raids, you want to save before checking them, because reloading them once you've already seen them they won't pop up again. Hope this helps OP.

You will DEFINITELY see more shinies in this game, especially if you get the shiny charm. But I saw quite a few before that.

Yeah, that's most of the shinyhunters I follow actually
The problem is just deeper than that - it's just that getting full odds shinies CAN be impossible. Without it really being a decision of yours.

Congrats on being autistic, I guess. I never started hunting till they made the odds shorter than a longshot's chance of winning the EPL. There's no sense of achievement sitting through up to 20k encounters (and potentially phasing) when SOS/Gen 8 breeding/Legends mapruns are all far less tedious than going full-autist ever is.
