>>51836522Seconding this. Pokémon Reborn has issues (with respect to character writing and game balance in particular), but it's the only Pokémon fangame that I would actually call good. It's a complete package that oozes more effort than GameFreak has shown at any point in the past 10 years. Some of Reborn's puzzles are going to be seared into my head forever—creative, often tricky, and always commanding the player's strict focus. It's impressive how many twists they were able to add to the crystal key mechanic, culminating in the Necrozma mission and one of the best puzzles in Pokémon history.
>>51835181On an unrelated note, I am currently playing Pokémon Wack. It's pure schlock. I was drawn in by the surefire chaos of 4,800+ different species and 52 unique types crammed into one campaign, expecting something more lighthearted after Reborn, but the writing is edgy to the point of being crass. At its highs, the game partners the player with Neil Armstrong to fight demons on the lunar surface. At its lows, the game lines up ten trainer battles in a conga line and then asks the player to forgive the Holocaust as it happens.
I've yet to finish the postgame, but I'm enjoying it more than the main story. It stops repeating the same three antisemitic jokes every six feet, and it starts making the most of its hideously unpolished aesthetic by veering in the direction of horror played straight. It's still a pretty unpleasant game, but at least it's gone from testing my patience to testing my nerves.
