It's moderately good as long as you don't actually watch for the battles because a vast majority of the time the main cast has plot armor and gets stupid victories unless it's something major in which case Ash has to lose just to keep stringing his goal along. The anime has taken a pretty strong shift toward character interactions. Alola arc is fantastic for this.
