These games aren’t complex enough to have meaningful strategic disagreements. There are no mysteries to solve, bulbapedia has every formula and every under the hood look at all the mechanisms that matter. An anymous image board will never be the best forum to discuss strategies for competitive or to make actual social connections that enrich gameplay.

The anime and other mediums through which to enjoy this franchise are even less complex.

The last things to hash out are aesthetic and subjective. I like this game because pixels. Anon likes that game because 3D. I like this mon because it has cool horns. Anon thinks the horns make it look like a queer. For the only moments of our interaction we are on opposite sides of the only thing we have in common. So it goes I hate him, he hates me. This is our fate.

Also, genuine, deep conversations rarely happen on 4chan. They rarely happen on social media in general in fact. You and I just remember the 1% of the time discussion was civil and insightful but on the internet 99% of discussion is trite bullshit and you know it. The deepest conversations you'll find on /his/ is shallow to actual historians and philosiphers in real life. There simply isn't that many intelligent people on 4chan and if you seriously think highly of any discussion held on here I highly recommend going outside and talking to more people.

I don't think OP is necessarily asking for a debate between philosophers here, I think he's trying to get at the fact that discussion quality as a whole is just fucking garbage. I've been using the boards since 2012, give or take a few years when I wasn't using 4chan, and I can definitely tell there's a difference between then and now. And no, I'm not wearing rose-tinted glasses for the old times, because it was still pretty shit back then, but the endless baiting is a recent thing. I'm shocked at how persistent the discord genwar baiters are, usually they would give up after a few months but it's been this way for years. It's understandable why they keep coming back for more though, considering that autists don't know how to not take the bait and always respond in earnest about their favorite region being good and calling it shit is objectively wrong blah blah blah. The only things to talk about right now are leaks and the new games now that people have had enough of gen 8. I do believe that scarce information has brought out the worst in /vp/ because there's nothing to talk about which amplifies the genwar posts. Pretty sure BBND and the shattering of the fanbase from that moment onwards combined with coof lockdowns making people spiral into insanity are also significant culprits in the decline of discussion quality. Most posters are jaded and lost their love for the series because it's becoming clear that things won't be the same, the magic is starting to fade because the cracks are showing and growing. People really just come here for leaks, baiting for (You)s, and the coomer threads.

I think Pokemon should take a direction and try to refine it to perfection. Open world is one way to go, but I'm not sure they can make games on the scale of Paldea while ALSO putting out games every year. In some ideal world, Pokemon would be like Smash and we'd get one definitive game per gen with spin-offs in-between.

I think the problem with pokemon games is that they never want to make them about the pokemon. They make them about A pokemon, sometimes they make them about 2 pokemon, but they never make them about... pokemon. It's always about some sort of eldritch creature or creatures and how the bad guys exploit it for power / profit. I'd love to see a story like Monster Hunter about some sort of ecosystem anomaly and how it throws the delicate balance of the fauna into disarray. Pokemon that show up in places they're not supposed to be in and interacting with pokemon they weren't supposed to interact with.
Imagine an Aggron that runs away from the valley it lives in because that valley is now a lake, so it wanders into a town and starts eating the buildings and the pipes. Imagine an earthquake that directed the course of a river into a volcanic area, turning the zone into a hot springs area. The Magikarp that once lived in that river now need to adapt to boiling hot waters. How would they change? How would the fire types change?
The problem with pokemon is that they felt the need to raise the bar in terms of story "epicness" every gen, and once they got to gen 4 and started dealing with literal gods it feels like they could never capture that epicness again. They no longer could escape the scope of their region without treading on the established lore of other regions. I think pokemon stories could benefit from more grounding
