Surprised no one knows about gaia. Its a very good game. Basically what i would expect if gamefreak was still making good games. No autistic difficulty, no edgy shit, just a good old pokemon experience in a brand new region

Yeah Gaia is the only good original rom hack. Shit like unbound and prism are filled with very cringey dialouge and poorly written characters, like the first gym leader in unbound being a pot head that sells weed to children, and both have really dumb dungeon layouts and awful puzzles, especially unbound with its multiple fucking hour long trial and error teleport "puzzles". Then you just have really dumb design like the highway sytem in unbound literally taking 5 minutes to travel through a straight line because the devs are too stupid to realise that a shortcut needs to be fucking shorter than the regular route. God damn unbound is just dogshit

Either way, any good basic hacks for Fire-Red that's not just some big difficulty hack? Like easy QoL stuff such as PHY/SP split, or maybe just a like a Gen 3 PKMN Yellow hack

I really like how Gaia encourages exploration. Practically every route has some hidden item or is branching out into different location with proper HM.
Also, I kinda like how early game does not throw at player absolutely broken Pokemon.
Tho early game also feels bit grindy - levels are bit steep up to like 2nd gym, but it's not really bad.

lots of modern quality of life
story isn't that bad and not edgy at all (unless you count your average rpg plot as edgy lol)
exploration is very good if you like that
difficulty is high but not too much

Be prepared to have non stop encounters very early on. Almost kaizo amounts. But if you're not speeding up most of these games you're going to be spending hours only to realize that one sucks.

Keep an eye on Gaia v4, Saffron v3, Crown (plays like autochess), and Voyager (it'll at least have some cool features like multi-abilities).
Gaia v3.2 won't transfer saves to v4 since 3.2 is binary FR, and v4 is decomp Emerald.
