I had just obtained the Old Rod and was fishing off the docks of Route 32. I don't even think I had encountered 100 Pokemon total yet and I just started fishing, so when I encounter a gold Magikarp and sparkles come shooting up it means absolutely nothing to me. I have no reaction as I slaughter it like all the other Pokemon I have faced.
Even after I get to the Shiny Gyarados my dumb ass doesn't put it together that I found a shiny Pokemon back then. It wasn't until the Sapphire days that I even really knew what a shiny was and how rare it is.
So I'm probably one of the first people in NA to come across a shiny (Aside from people who had early sources.) and I kill the fucker.
