TPP, PokeMMO, and the era of 2012-2016 when people used GBA emulators to play romhacks. Post 2016 Pokemon has become irrelevant to most people. The renaissance concurred with the peak of interest in melee oddly enough, probably because millenials and zoomies were having our nostalgia wave and now zoomies are having sex and millenials are content watching their wife get creampied by a black man instead of playing pokemon.

Pokemon has always kinda been in the background of the cultural zeitgeist. I guess if we had to decide when it "peaked culturally" I'd say sometime between Gen 2 and Gen 4. Gen 2 was kinda the peak of Pokemania but that momentum was carried for quite a while afterwards. Even today though, Pokemon movies still find themselves finding success at Western box offices (pic related). So I dunno, it feels like a series thats never not going to carry some level of cultural relevance

The word "Pokemon" and the pocket monster known as Pikachu are never going anywhere anymore. They are human history at this point, along with Mario and Mickey. Pokemon as a whole? That's the real question, and idk how to answer that.

Mind you, I don't think Pokemon is at that level (yet) because each new release still sells well over 20 million copies which would be incredible for just one game to sell but fucking insane for Pokemon to be able to do so consistently and effortlessly. However, I can see Pokemon becoming this in the next 10 to 20 years

Detective Pikachu is just another generic woke movie of this decade that will be completely forgotten once the LGBT+racial craze dies off.
It's nowhere near the level of, say, Disney/Pixar classics.
Besides Detective Pikachu doesn't really add anything to the series. What are its most memorable moments? All things the anime did: Psyduck, Charizard, Magikarp>Gyarados, Mewtwo, Ditto, Greninja. It addes nothing of value to the series.
