Yeah, I like it. Gives me kodama vibes, and combining that with a dowsing rod/metal detector motif is clever, especially if it's gonna be incorporated into an actual item collection mechanic. And the mouth doesn't really bother me either, kinda reminds me of henohenomoheji or something you'd see on a teru teru bozu.

I actually prefer it like this, Pokemon can be more varied than just 'magic animals'. It's supposedly a ghost type too, so there's no real reason for it to look like anything in particular. It actually kind of reminds me of Kodama from SMT.

Kodama's design works for SMT, it's an abstract design and abstract designs are a big part of the series aesthetic. I don't think that works as well for a series like Pokémon where it used to be standard for designs to have a lot of thought put into them. It just comes across as laziness.
