Gen 8 isn't Pokemon, rather its corpse being puppeteered by the ass in order to sell merch. Same with gen 9. They don't count.
gen 2 has the worst dex by far and it's not even close. A bunch of shitty one stage mons, the worst starter trio, the fucking babies (and people complain about UB being wasted slots), all the shitty "cute derpy" pokemons (quagsire would have sufficed, no need for every single early mon to be one), the worst pseudo (we already had rhydon and Nidoking ffs), worse legendary duo (Ho-Oh is such a garbage design when inspected properly, my mom's fire chicken), the worst mythical,etc.
All that while not even letting players access and catch the actual interesting mons ingame until after the 8th arena / with trade.
Gen2 is absolute garbage, the only thing going for it is literally just soul (sprites, following pokemon for HGSS, pictutes with team, Red battle+Kanto, etc) and nostalgia drunk boomers.
