Bros... I'm at a point where I have accepted that they'd sooner kill the maingames than make some genuinely amazing ones. This is as good as its gonna get whether we complain or not.

Have you played the games since X/Y? Yes, I also get excited for new pokemon/new meta shit, but I also remember how the games have become so easy 2 year olds will even get bored by it, and the insufferable dialogue that makes cocomelon seem like deep philosophical theories, and the hand holding, and the constant repetitive trainers that challenge you with 4 caterpies, and the railroading, etc.

I'm legitimately hyped for gen 9, but the best way to experience it is on Showdown. Playing the games seems so painful, even if they were free.

I am too obviously. But if I feel like playing a fresh monster collecting game, what am I gonna go to, fucking TemTem? Despite being mediocre Pokemon is still dominating its niche. I have hope that the open world will fix the issues I have with dialogue, railroading and hand holding. Trainer battles are already confirmed to be optional, which makes me hope that staying underlevelled is a possibility.
It's looking weirdly good.

The story is a tutorial for plebs and normies.

You have free roam of the map after the story. Grind, battle, collect. You never have to interact with the story NPCs or have your hand held after you clear game. Takes under 20 hours each time.

Also beyond pathetic to be here complaining if you don't enjoy shiny hunting. There is too little for you to do outside cry about the story tutorial.

Your not cool doing gym battles or elite 4 is piss easy so any can clear it. Explore and grind post game.

Funny, I'm in a pretty similar boat. The last game I played was Sun, which honestly I did enjoy as well as X. Pokemon's formula can basically yield a moderately enjoyable game even at its worst. Maybe I just want to try a new game again, but SV's more open structure may provide a fun enough novelty when combined with a self-imposed challenge or two.

Or maybe people want different things from this franchise. I loved PLA because it was an exploration centric game with an emphasis on capture and research. People that care more about battles are of course going to be disappointed.
