they buffed it in pokemon go during the pandemic to be acutally fun.
I use to go out once a day to play for 90ish mins and would find 1 shiny per week.
before the pandemic buffs i caught on average 1 shiny per year and would play simmilar in playstyle.
i cant go out 8 hours a day, every day to walk in the park. its both unrealistic and there are retards that let their dogs off the leash, i dont want to get mauled by a someone's precious "friendly" pitbull.
