So like was there a reason why this show doesn’t like showing off the E4? I think DP was the first time they showed off every member of that respective region. It took until Hoenn for us to see all the Gen 1 E4 members.

Makes sense. I guess the anime (at least the original series) is planned during the beta stages of the game's development? Would explain why Blaine's beta design is the one used in the anime. Also why Professor Westwood - a character who was cut from the games during the late stages of Red & Green's development - made an appearance in the anime.

It's insane Grimsley didn't show up in SuMo. I can get BW since he was still a niche character, but post SuMo he'a popularity started to surge, and in the show even RYUKI showed up, and they wasted their 3rd chance in Journeys(they even included the ugly dragon hag)

Here's a full list of Elite Four Members that have never appeared in the anime:

Shauntal, Marshal, Grimsley

Every Sinnoh and Kalos Elite Four member have appeared in the anime at least once. Flint and Malva in particular actually had relatively important roles.

God I’m so glad everybody is realizing how stupid this was in hindsight. That episode of the Vermillion gym ended with them teasing Surge’s return but didn’t go anywhere. Makes you wonder why they even bother making an OC in the first place. At least if they introduced Janine they could just say “Koga got promoted to being an E4 member and I took over the gym” especially since Lance is champion now

For some reason gen 5 was the only gen where the female protag didn't travel with Ash until Sun and Moon made it a trend. I can understand why they didn't do it for Gen 7 since the cast already had 3 girls in it but then they didn't use Gloria for the current anime either.

Gen 5’s tagline was “start from a new beginning” so instead of continuing the trend of a female companion they decided to do season 1 again which was why he was traveling with 2 gym leaders. As for Gloria I would have taken her over Goh and Chloe any day

Why? I can understand the early series still getting their head around the formula and dealing with a drunk bird fucker. But you'd think after they'd just go what is the game plot? Okay follow that and add in some filler with side characters if you need to.
