>>51888852Creativity in the franchise is dead and nothing supports this more than cross gen evolutions. Compare Weavile to Sneasler, Scizor to Kleavor, Dusknoir to Runerigus, or Froslass to Cursola. Even Mamoswine to Ursaluna.
In the past, when a Pokémon evolves, it often gets new features or loses pre existing ones. But now when a Pokémon evolves, it either gets bigger, changes color, or gets random spikes or add one to its body. Thre was more experimentation, and yes, we got some ugly looking Pokémon like Magnortar or Electivire in the process, but they actually tried to give these Pokémon new gimmicks to work with. Tangrowth has a caveperson motif and the Green Man that was explained by it requiring Ancient Power to evolve. It also adds a new featute such as its vines now forming full limbs and a stockier body.
Farigiraf is just a larger recolored Girafarig with its tail now being a hood. Wyrdeer is just a larger recolored Stantler with a white beard. Gliscor meanwhile changes Gligar’s entire body shape and sections them off, reshapes the ears and arms, and gives it large yellow eyes to see in the dark.
Compare Crocalor to Monferno or even to Pignite where despite their iffy execution at least tried to make them unique.
Pokémon is now quantity over quality.
