Forums and 4chan were places to be unsanitary and loud and stupid and obnoxious. Nowadays all the internet hang out spots of yesteryear, excepting a rare few, are gone. Their replacements are shitty curated shilltowns where everyone has to be happy or only hate the "right" kind of thing. Sanitized. Reddit is a prime example of this, and is a symbol of all that is wrong with web 2.0. Of course, you likely weren't here before then, so you don't know what the old internet was.
