Sonic is dead as an "everyone" IP, even if they're still making the ages with a PEGI 7 rating in mind because there's no actual marketing of the thing at children - it's all aimed at 20-and-30 yo manchildren, living off the glory of the early 90's.
Pokémon since it started hasn't had that issue, every Gen and year they catch fresh kids to render oldfags staying past their initial entry irrelevant and that's also ignoring the normies who'll play through the game, drop the series then come back with the next new Gen game, as we saw with the pattern of paired/rehash sales figures and also the knowledge that normies prefer DLC adding actual new content to rehashing the base game slightly and adding one or two new areas to "explore".
So go on, cry more about devs of game series' listening to those that enable their livelihoods some more, becauee it's the reason Game Freak and Sonic team both do what they do.
