Genuinely speaking I think this is a generally pretty strong set of starters. Quaxly is trying a little too hard to be water blaziken but I like Blaziken so this is fine.

Ice loses per usual. The type with the least Pokémon in general (by far) and only get a few lines this Gen. One of which is Deliberd which is a useless gimmickmon

It’s only positive is it’s a secondary typing for the pseudo. It’s really just a cyclical Dragon win honestly since they get every Pseudo anyways

Ice gets the pseudo, a legendary that might end up Weavile 2.0, paradox Delibird has a guaranteed spot in the upper tiers and even Cetitan has potential.
Ice won big time this gen on what it needed the most: more competitive mons.

Not great but other types did much worse. Flying, Ice, arguably Fairy, Rock.

The only types that did objectively better are Ghost, Dark, Dragon

The issue with Ice is it’s insanely behind other types with variety. I’m looking at it as a total. This Gen helped it but it’s nowhere near made up for how shit Ice is in multiple metrics

To be fair, Psychic had it really good in gen 8 with the introduction of Expanding Force, Teleport buffs, and a couple new funny Psychic types to work with

Ghost won by far, with like 7 or 8 new lines. I think Ice is doing pretty well, since Deliberd iron bundle will definitely be in OU with that crazy stat spread, plus the pseudo is ice. I think Rock lost this gen. Even though the salt mon has a great ability its one of 2 mons who got the typing. Ground also did very poorly this gen with only one new basic mon being ground, which is wooper. Maybe the deer mon will be really good

Any of you autistic enough to do monotype runs?

I figure in lore people specialize in types because if you’re not a hobo like the protagonist it’s hard to keep multiple types. Like Fire-proofing your house is expensive enough without having to account for grounding everything for Electric or Water damage

Nah we have it good this generation compared to some other types. It's nice to see some actual new dual typings not used before. While I'm not of fan of the gardevoir paradox, it's nice to have a fairy type on my fighting mono now. Can't wait till we see the new primeape evo. Too bad poison didn't do so hot this time around since it's my second favorite. I'm jealous of Dark though, so many new mons

You also have hake fish and potentially scarab.
Considering how common Psychic is, seeing it with less representation now is refreshing.
Ice and Ghost won the gen, with Dark being close.
