Wait, so there are only 2 regional forms? Wooper and Tauros? Seems like a big missed opportunity to add more. Are they phasing them out to remove them next gen?

Absolutely getting phased out and I can tell you exactly why. Twenty years from now kids getting into Pokémon will have no reference for what a Galar or Alola is. Conditioning consumers to get attached to a favorite is important, so you actually don't want an equally valid form occupying mental space for brand recognition. Continuity is the death of indefinite sustainability. Going online as a new fan, your priority would be to learn Pokémon names, but then you're hit with additional proper nouns that mean nothing to you like Paldea. Convergent species offer the same thing as regional variants while being able to be marketed and remembered separately.

People in my pogo group around me know the Alolan forms as "those crappy version of pokemon you get in 7ks". They aren't wrong either I think marowak is the only good alolan in pogo and only in pvp
