If instead of a starter they designed a random waifumon with the exact same concepts as Quaquaval (duck/peackock/carnival dancer) you'd be drooling all over it. Same deal with Meowscarada. Skeledirge isn't waifumon material and it's nowhere near as criticized as the other two anyway.
Your issue isn't the design, it's because you want your starters to be a Blastoise/Charizard/Venusaur clone.
