So far what I can gather is something like
>Paldea had a huge mysterious crater that people rarely explore
>the few people who attempted to do it in the past saw some pokemon living in there (things like a regular Misdreavus or a regular Delibird)
>but due to the persistent fog or something they couldn't manage to tell exactly what those pokémon were, so they made sketches of them and the things kinda became urban legends
>fastforward to the present. Shenanigans happen (probably related to some legendary pokémon or villain character) and those urban legends actually come to life. Not as the pokémon the explorers actually saw, but what they THOUGHT they saw. And what they drew on the books
