Out of all the older mons, why did they think Bisharp of all things should've gotten a new evolution.

Kingambit is cool, I just wish there were some more "left behind" Pokemon that got the attention. Toxicroak, Delcatty, Purugly, Skuntank, Floatzal, Carnivine, Lumineon, Grumpig, Castform, Sawsbuck, Gogoat, Maractus, and so on all needed more help than Bisharp, which was doing fine all things considered. Even just a +10 boost to Bisharp's speed stat would've been sufficient to keep it relevant.

Because it doesn't flow with the chess theming of Pawniard (Pawn) and Bisharp's (Bishop) localized names. You'd just be repeating Bishop again without continuing the pattern.

The chess theme is an invention of Nintendo of America. Bisharp's name in other versions (except for 2 which just use the English name) makes no reference to chess. Nothing about Pawniard or Bisharp's designs are anything related to chess. In fact, Pawniard and Bisharp are actually based off of bandits/ruffians from Japan. That's why they evolve into a shogun.

Oof that speed stat. Bisharp is still going to be tankier with an eviolite, and it'll be faster too. It's a little too fast for Trick Room teams, and a little too slow to use with a Choice Scarf or Tailwind.

In English all their names are references to chess and Bishogun would just repeat the bishop. In this case, it's a reference to the King's Gambit, a type of chess move done by the king. It fits that the last form is named after the king.

It makes perfect sense. They're using localized equivalents to the Japanese counterparts while also taking into account the (ironically) European fantasy inspired lore of Unova.

Main legendary trio is a reference to Taoism. Genies are Japanese gods. Bisharp line, Volcarona line, and the Hydreigon line reference Japanese pop culture. Unova Pokemon are very Oriental, not European. Kingambit's name should've rectified that.

Oh, does it only affect PP on moves that would affect the Pokemon with Pressure? My mistake, I just assumed a flat double PP cost across the board.

Aside from the style of Team Plasma and the castle, none of that is European. Reshiram and Zekrom are direct references to Taoism. Team Plasma is just a bunch of LARPers.

Dragonspiral Tower is literally an ancient European style castle that's been beaten down by time. The entire point of the game is that America is a melting pot of various cultures, and everything is themed around royalty, with European being a large part of that.

Regardless none of this changes that Bishogun is a dumbass name for a localization and and doesn't fit with what's already established.

None of that is true. It has vague references to other cultures, but if any culture is dominant, it'd be Oriental culture. You can see that in the starters where 1 is based off of France, 1 off of China, and one off of Japan.

The game is very American aside from some slight motifs. Big cities, big wilderness. Planes, trains, and automobiles. Some Pokemon are occasionally themed around foreign things, but by and large it is American. That's why Dragonspiral Tower is very nondescript fantasy.

Yes but you also have things like Egyptian ruins in the desert, a pacific island with its own ruins in the northwest, Native American ruins, asian and european styled legends, a walled up, very European stylized village. Yes it's America but there are elements of other cultures all over the game. Just like real America.

You could use the same argument for Japan being a melting pot because of Hoenn and Sinnoh. Sootopolis is very Meditteranean. Spear Pillar has a very "Roman ruin" look to it.

It has sucker punch so the speed stat won't such a big problem. But I think that Bisharp will be a slightly better Defiant user so Kingambit is most likely to shine with Supreme Overlord as a late game sweeper in Hyper Offense archetypes (maybe even banned because it seems busted)
