On one hand this is good because those stats were awful and need to be fixed
On the other hand, there's something aboht changing the base stats of a Pokemon through a balance patch that doesn't feel right to me.

No. The four Pokémon that were changed were only because they got an additional 10 points in species strength totals that they didn’t deserve. The Ruined Pokémon got 580 in error but it is now fixed. They are meant to be counterparts to the Tapu due to their signature move.

Day one patches aren't remotely unusual these days, the time between the game going gold and the game being released is time that can be spent improving it for release, which could only come in the form of a day one patch. You might not like it but that's just how it goes these days.

It's already fine. This whole thing reminds me of when people said talonflame was going to be trash because its base attack is only 81. Trust me, a 160 base power move more than makes up for an attack of 75. Putting it any higher is a request from people who don't really understand the relative contributions of move power versus base stats

As others said, it's common nowadays.
Fucking retarded and greedy, ("we have to get the game out NOW NOW NOW!!!") but common. In the past, they'd either have to ship as-is, or delay it. That's why good games in the past are better than good games now--mistakes can lead to really fun developments with glitches/metagames.

Day one patches used correctly is to fix bugs. As you said, before patches/updates if a game is good or bad, it’ll stay that way that since its launch. A lot more pressure when you cant update a game. It’s now common and I know good have come from patches, but it’s been a bit of a common occurrence to just be lazy since a game can always be fixed later.
