So, who’s going to be the Shillmon? For context, the 3D games tend to have a rather predictable pattern of who GF wants to be popular.

Gen 7 - Incineroar
>Busted Ability

>Oddly, arguably the least popular upon reveal but GameFreak shilled anyway

Gen 8 - Cinderace

Decidueye was shilled in Gen 7, not Incineroar. They tried to repeat Greninja and failed because everyone liked the other two starters better.

Even though the Protean nerf severally hampers her viability, she was obvious the shillmon of choice given her crit boosted signature move and her stats.

Both Greninja and Incineroar lost the secondary "signature" moves in the very same gen they were intro'd (Gren lost Mat Block in ORAS to Throh, Incin lost Throat CHop in USUM to Weavile). They can hardly be considered as such anymore
Also Primarina is the least popular of the three, but they're all close enough in popularity so that it doesn't matter anyways.

I think Meowscarada is prankster messer. Natural immunity against prankster and powder moves. Thanks for nerfed protean it can steal prankster by skill swap and locks target with changed type and forced them to switch out and casually use tera type after that, or u-turns out, or set spikes/toxic spikes. I actually see its potential even with nerf thanks to 123 speed

I would say that 44k vote (first position decidueye) to 26k (third position primarina) is quite significant, almost 1.7 times. Granted, incineroar is quite near to primarina

I was more so referring to position than votes. The jump from Decid to Prim is only 5 spots, whereas in Sinnoh and Hoenn it's 7 spots (forgot to also mention Sinnoh in terms of balanced trio, my apologies) and not other region is even worth mentioning because the gap is so hilariously huge. In a vacuum there's a clear winner but taken in the context of other starter's popularity this is the most balanced trio, which is why I sad the gap isn't big enough for it to matter.
