Masuda already explained they make flawed games on purpose to avoid making a perfect pokémon game. They remove features so that each generation has an unique feel, that way no game will ever be better than another, because for every new feature they add they remove another, so they all have the same amount of features.

It gives you a reason to go back to play old games
