Monster Hunter Storiees 2 let you do exactly that, if you backed out of customization it would go back to the character selection screen and let you see the characters you designed for both genders.
It would be cool if Pokemon did the same, but I'm pretty sure they only want you to choose a character that looks like yourself these days.
