Anyone else FUCKING PISSED that they removed the feature where the colour of the joycons in the player home match the colour of the joycons attached to the switch the game is running on?

Because Joycons aren't standard anymore, anon. Between the Switch models that just don't have them to the numerous official custom models they've vomited out it's just not worth doing.

actually joycon colour have always been defined by the actual color value.

In Sword/Shield if you hacked your joycons to be a colour not officially released, the game would still display them as that colour.

The game just checks the config on the controllers themselves, but you're ignoring that the official custom joycons don't do that properly and have arbitrary values. Since there's Switches without Joycons at all and more official custom models than standard ones it's not worth doing anymore because so few people will even see it.

The code for that is actually pretty intricate, there's a reason hardware accessory identification is so rare in games.
