Does Terastalizing mean you gain a 3rd type or is it a one-time Protean?

Yes
You become ONLY your tera type when calculating incoming damage, but you have an EXTRA stab type offensively. If you terastilize into one of your already stab types, it's about x2 instead of x1.5
Yes but seem to be transfer exclusive

You can change the type with 50 shards, PLA mons are all in as transfers, and Tera gives you a mono-type replacement for your original typing but you keep your old STABs in addition to the new one.

Won't lie, changing Tera Types kind of removes the "coolness" of finding a pokemon with an unusual Tera type.
But hey, can't make anything too difficult to achieve anymore, or it'll be obvious when the Tourneyfags injected their Pokemon.

Changing a Tera type requires an insane grind though. It will probably be faster to find the Pokemon you want in a raid lol
