I fully expect it to get banned, which is a shame because while its definitely stronger than Dynamax or Z-moves, I also found it a lot more enjoyable to use.

In addition to this as OP says entry hazards were handed out like candy, while Defog also got axed from most movepools.
Chomp gets Spikes, Hydreigon gets SR and the toxic flower thing has an ability that spreads Toxic Spikes when hit. Poison/Steel types are mandatory in every team. Or Terastal into a poison type and absorb TS I guess.

Are Heavy Duty Boots in the game?

It's the new hail(snow) setter: it got a signature move that sets snow and switches out.
Cetitan is a strong and bulky monster under snow with Slush Rush and it gets Belly Drum and Ice Shard too.

Rapid Spin is still available as usual + has a few new mons like the paradonphans. There's also a new Poison-type Rapid Spin with poison chance that's the signature move for the new Rock/Poison flowermon.

There's no way that move is Slowking exclusive. It sounds tailor made for G-Mime, for one. But then again this is also the gen made Scald "exclusive" to Volcanion (despite the redundancy of it also learning Steam Eruption)

Defog being gone doesn't feel as big a loss to me. We played for several metas without it removing hazards, as it only gained that ability a few gens ago. It is weird to see it gone from so many mons that really needed it but GF never gave a crap about that anyway. What's more interesting is how Rapid Spin gained the +1 Speed buff in Gen 8 as a way to make it a more attractive option (I imagine). Now that it's becoming the "only" option again, and the buff remains, I wonder what difference that will make for Pokemon who were standard spinners from back in the day -- like Donphan or Starmie

You sometimes see even fucking Draining Kiss being used in competitive play, a 90 BP move that can be boosted by the sun is really fucking insane.

Between this, the mice' DD+Defog and 10-hit signature move, the ghost move that gets stronger for each fainted mon and other retardedly strong shit, it really seems like they're trying to promote Terastal for strategic defensive use. Lots of mons have super-strong STABs that can be nullified but shit coverage options.

In SwSh and BDSP, you could have a Pokemon from any species that knew X move in the Day Care with another Pokemon, with an empty moveslot, which could have X move through Egg Moves and they would learn it from the former. Some guy on Smogon tested to see if this mechanic was still in SV and couldn't get it to work, but I suspect it must still be in there in some way. Either related to a hold item, or maybe a sandwich effect, idk.

With Scald gone from everything except Volcanion, I can see Lando-T actually using that move. It's inaccurate though and much weaker than EQ but Lando-T is known for being able to pull all kinds of weird shit off.

I think nerfed protean has niche potential. Cat learns skill swap. Psychic type lock is not good looking, but Meowscarada can be annoying against prankster users. You can actually forced them to switch out for reset abillity if you locks them with undesired type changed. This give you in doubles free set up, because cat always use its passive moves after prankster (thanks for priority) and mess with them, because it can't be target to begin with

Slow and physically really bulky but with shit special stats and a 100 atk
It has a signature move that can further boost a specific stat based on the tatsugiri form but it's dragon type not water
Gets rest talk to heal bu that's it
Doesn't seem great to me although I still love tatsugiri and will use it in game

Strategy for protean Meowscarada against grimmsnarl in double battle.
Pros:
Default immunity against prankster priority and spore
Skill swap - stealing target abillity and forced other mons to switch out thanks to type lock (thanks to better speed than any prankster user)
Trick - item swaping
Ally switch and helping hand
Tera fairy type with play rough
Cons:
While trick, skill swap and ally switch are usefull, but Meowscarada risks own life because psychic type lock
Forced to switch out or using tera type for cover
Doesn't get fake out

I'm really, really confused regarding the new moveset changes. A bunch of moves got removed from the game and that's normal now, but what about mons losing attacks randomly? They are messing with the game's balance too much. Eg. Gyarados losing Wood hammer, what the fuck? I don't even care about gyara but what's the reasoning behind this? Whip is a shit move too. Or Rilla losing Superpower, what's the deal? No glide already floors the fucker's usage to the ground. At the same time Garde and Gallade gain some cool buffs that make 0 sense to give now. Ice Beam has always been around and you give it to Garde now because you want to buff it for this specific gen? That's very inconsistent.
I fear that this will be the norm and mons will gain or lose moves for the sake of a balance that GF can't reach in the slightest. You have clearly broken mons and abilities (Zacian) that get raped the gen after because they aren't the cover legendaries anymore, or others that get insane shit like a move that revives.
There is 0 consistency and they cannot accept their mistakes. I get ability nerfs but movepool nerfs are a low blow.
And now everything sets up hazard while attacking . They are insane and give so little thought to their decisions that I'd be better if they gave 0

I reckon they didn't give it QD so vanilla Volacrona wouldn't be outclassed.
In a Toxic Spikes-infested meta I can see it being useful.

I don't get this argument, nerfing learnsets is literally a way to correct past mistakes. Nor this is a new thing because VGC has worked this way for the past three gens, there is just a realistic possibility that now Smogon will also be forced to deal with it since all moves will be deleted on transfer. Many of the most cancerous sets in Smogon gen 8 were possible mainly with transfer moves so it's a net positive in my view even if I lament the loss of some things like Poltergeist in general.

The legendary quartet have insane abilities. The two offensive ones are busted in singles, the two defensive ones will probably see lots of use in doubles. They're PERMANENT stat debuffs for everyone except themselves. The potency is equal to one stage drop.

Yeah I don't like this either. They nerfed Intrepid Sword which is understandable, but Dauntless Shield didn't really deserve that treatment. But I can still see the argument of "fairness" since they're counterparts.

The Ruin abilities are basically Intrepid Sword/Dauntless Shield on steroids, there is zero counterplay against them aside from Neutralizing Gas because they're auras so Defiant/Contrary doesn't work, and worst of all you can't deny the effect by switching out.
They would have been perfectly fine as Intimidate clones, they didn't need to be auras.
Wouldn't surprise me if they nerf them in gen 10.

Hail/Snow gained what the weather needed the most: a setter that doesn't die after setting the weather once.
Slowking is hard to take down thanks to Regenerator and they gave it snow+teleport.
Even if you don't run a dedicated snow team, it will fuck with the other weather teams by simply doing its job.
Bonus points for having a type advantage against everything ice is weak to. They knew what they were doing.

Baxcalibur also becomes really bulky under snow, it gets in for free from Sloking's snow+teleport move, sets up DD without worrying about burn and wrecks shit.
Iron Bundle also gets 100% accurate Blizzard and can set up Aurora Veil AND has Flip Turn so you have tons of momentum. Though of course with hazards everywhere will force it to run HDB.

Snow teams will play a lot like Baton Pass chains with their switching out moves and passive buffs.

Mortal Spin is a damage move that has a chance of poisoning, so it doesn't work with Corrosion.

In case you don't know how it works, Corrosion only makes it so Steel types are not immune to the Poison /status/, not Poison-type /moves/. So while they can get hit by Toxic and maybe Baneful Bunker or Poison Powder, they cannot get hit by Poison Jab, for instance, and therefore won't get poisoned by it.

Both Basculegion are obviously better than Houndstone on paper but the legality of Last Respects on it is questionable unless a way to pass egg moves outside the egg group is found.

In practice all three are most likely uber (or de facto uber if they ban Last Respects as a whole) as they are effectively a reincarnation of Dracovish with a even better offensive type and a potentially stronger move.

Close Combat/trailblazer/tailwind

Obviously stone axe at 105BP+stealth rock and 120BP Xscissor is mandatory. Aerial Ace is just coverage for fighting types at 90BP, close combat is there for steel types. With no priority or speed boosting though, it might be forced to run trailblazer? or tailwind could make for a more supportive kleavor along with keeping up stealth rocks? Slash also becomes a 105BP normal attack but that doesn't really do anything.

That's like 95% of OU. Plus any dark/grass/psychic pokemon that is good probably has a second type that resists bug, and with knock off gone, all dark types will be moving to ZU.

Not just that, but sharpness seems to indeed be a 1.5 boost.
So gallade gets a 135 STAB fighting move, 105 BP psycho cut, knock, 135 BP leaf blade, 105 BP water coverage if you ever need it, and gets both SD and Agility.
Will never ever be back to OU but will definitely cause some serious damage in the lower tiers.
Galladechads are eating good this gen.

Primeape's Rage Fist also gets +50 damage everytime he gets hit and he has good bulk. Caps at 300 BP.

Snow is a huge improvement over Hail and there are some nice new Ice types to make use of it, but I think it’s jumping the gun to knock Rain down that far. It’s as solid as ever.

Pelipper is still around, though it doesn’t love the Roost nerf it’s still a reliable Drizzle setter.

Barraskewda and a number of other potent Swift Swimmers are present with the initial dex, and Basculegion will be arriving via home with Swift Swim as it’s Hidden Ability.

Kilowattrel is a solid-looking addition thanks to its high speed, high power STABs, and Volt Absorb providing a nice Electric immunity.

Losing Ferrothorn to the current deduct is both a loss and a gain for rain, will be interested to see how that plays out.
