The series has a lot of problems, none of those problems has ever been "we need more Pokémon". So why do they keep making more when it only compounds the amount of work it would take to actually bring the rest of the pre-existing assets up to standard?
Why is the solution to every problem to just scrap mechanics entirely? HMs, TMs, Name Changer, Move Tutor, Set mode, unadjusted exp yield, even abilities and held items in the case of PLA, and now invariably the entire postgame have been pared back for the sake of simplicity. Instead of streamlining a mechanic (take TMs, HMs and Move Tutors for example) they just scrap the whole thing. Now it's convenient, but now it has no difficulty; no competence, no anything. It's stopped being a game for the sake of being simple.
If you extrapolate this philosophy, what will Pokémon look like in twenty years?
It'll be a picture album of 2000 Pokémon and you "catch" them by ticking a box underneath each one.
