What went so unbelievably wrong? How did they take the kino that was SM and ruin it so badly?

i do remember ultras battles were better and it had a bunch of nice things like ability pills or whatever theyre called prior to post-game

Making a game using a shit game as a core while changing almost nothing bad and adding irrelevant nonsensical stuff isn’t going to make it good. Alola in general is a terrible boring region.

Did you not bother to stake out on your own? I see the dialogue cited as an issue a lot, and there is certainly a lot to go through, but there was still a ton of game regardless of that. I really liked the region.

USUM are factually the better game. There's more content and they are harder as well. Just because the shit story is somewhat shittier doesn't change that.

USUM improved SM in the same way Emerald/Platinum improved RS and DP respectively.

That's it. USUM is just SM with even more QoL and content, but needlessly botched story. It could easily have the best of both worlds if it wanted
