>>52100312i have god knows how many hours playing smogon formats over the past decade, and experience in their tournaments + watching tournaments. 40 turns is fast, i have no clue why this is the crux of your complaint
if your turn based strategy game fizzles out in 10 or 20 turns, the individual risk/reward at play on each turn is royally fucked, and instead of two people trying to intelligently position win conditions through accurate risk/reward assessments, making educated guesses based on meta knowledge and their opponent's team, and player reads, you get shitty hyper offense vs hyper offense games where either one player clearly has an immense matchup advantage from the get-go or theres like 1 or 2 rps/coinflip turns that decide the entire game
the only actual problem with any style of play is how difficult it is to prep for accounting for everything else. if you have to pick between being ready for stall or having decent matchups against everything else in a given metagame, then stall is a problem, otherwise learn how to strategize in a strategy game and stop crying. it really speaks to the zoomerness of this board that no one brings up how stupid shit like baton pass has historically been
