Was this necessary? Why 3 slots? Why so similar? A single stages smol but stronk electric fighting type would have sufficed. Is it a developer in-joke about how the rest of the Pikachu line is unnecessary and shouldn't evolve because it's Pikachu?

Some pokemon are just designated storymode mons for kids or whatever to go "ooh that's cute" and use it until it evolves etc etc and then look back 10 years later and think "yeah, pawmi was my bro who I beat the champ with in my first game"

I'm actually not. I like the design and evo line. It's cool to see a pokemon natural evolve like that. Not all evos have to be drastically different like dragonair -> dragonite or magikarp -> gyarados. There are a ton of "just gets bigger" poking that no one complains about.

I just came up with a theory, if the Ashnime is really ending, what if this shit is the new main protagonist ace? Pawmi is fine. Pawmot is fine. Pawmo is among the likes of the Psyduck, Magnemite, and Natu evolution lines where they were 3-stages in development, but the middle stage was cut for redundancy, only this time it made it into the final game.

The point is that size increases with slight differences has ALWAYS been one way Pokemon evolve so sperging out about how wasted and bad it is to do so is just made up rules that have never existed. For a long while I thought this mon only evolved once and people were complaining because the little guy looks too similar to the final stage. But goddamn, the second stage really is near fucking identical to the third. If you saw both of those in-game a few hours apart you'd never think they were different pokémon unless you memorized the names.

Poli just getting bigger is part of the design philosophy, it's an anthropomorphic tadpole. It evolves but remains a tadpole, so it's overpowered but underdeveloped and angry about it. This is how I read the design, and it works.

The uniformity of the Pawmi line doesn't really make sense unless you start to look at it from the perspectives other anons have shared. Deliberate "storymode" style gradual growth.
