They tend to also be very disparate or at the very least, clunky. Take Palafin for example-- the idea of a super hero themed Pokemon isn't necessarily a bad one, but what does that have to do with a dolphin at ALL? They're so unrelated that it just comes off as entirely random. It didn't need to be that, and it limits the design framework intensely for no real reason.
And then the execution issue comes into play, where it just looks so awful. The linework, style, everything, looks so out of left field for Pokemon's established aesthetic.
