It takes place on a grid-based overworld that hasn't been significantly changed in over 20 years. Every path and town is built using unnatural right angles. It's not remotely believable or convincing as a location.
So far I think the best example of 3D Pokemon is SwSh's Crown Tundra expansion.

Oh God no, SWSH was ugly as shit in the wild areas and that includes the DLC. Just remove the grid and keep the models and aesthetic. It's that simple. I don't know why 3D Pokemon just HAS to be ugly.

Exactly the same except player and NPC movement aren't locked to grids and have omnidirectional movement. Just rework some puzzles (DO NOT REMOVE THEM PLS) and it's perfect.

The best depiction of 3D Pokémon is obviously PLA. They didn’t make a flat plain or field and plop down Pokémon in it like SWSH, the environments has thought out behind it and made the discovery of new Pokémon in them a much more immersive experience.

Player movement itself isn't locked to the grid but the world still looks stupidly artificial due to the grid design. It's like wandering around an empty world made of Legos.

Just give me Let's GO Johto and I'll be fully satisfied. Same aesthetic, same (or a bit better) graphics, a mix of GSC and HGSS but mostly the former, similar approach to world and character design. Catching style may be either classic or GO-like, I don't mind.

This is enough for a fully enjoyable game and GF is creatively bankrupt anyway, so such a game could make use of that bankruptcy to their advantage.

I don't even mind the exclusion of wild battles, but outright replacement of wild battles with the fucking FPS ball catching game was trash
It works for GO because you have a touch screen to throw with, it flat out doesn't work for legpiss unless you want to waggle in docked mode. It was a terrible decision and makes me actively avoid the game. Additionally it makes the trainer battles feel weird and tacked on. It looks great (for a Pokemon game) but that's about the end of its praises.
