That said, the crater is endgame area, you don't get there until you got the 18 badges and beat the 3 final bosses of each story

level scaling is always dog shit for open world games only zoomers will cry about this.
the real problem is exp is gained too quickly, they literally should have implemented an xp modifier in the settings and let people cut the xp gain back to whatever they want.

It wouldn't take any serious effort to do, but this is also the developer that leaves trainer pokemon movesets blank to be automatically filled by the four most recent level up moves, so.

This would have been cool as fuck if they balanced around it, instead what's gonna happen is people are going to find an area they overlooked and completely shitstomp whatever boss is there.
I'd be really interested in mods for this game though, I think they can fix it.

If you go in order and aren't battling every wild pokemon/trainer you pass the game's leveling is decent. I was 3-5 levels behind with a full team for most of the game, and that gap only grew at the end. Just got badge 18 with a team mainly in the late 40s, highest was 52 vs the star base's 56.

Do people actually do it in order? if you set a level cap then maybe but even then I beat Tusk on my way to water. Since Im just grinding and evolving everything I can and challenging the gym with a team around his level.

Obviously, but it's still a free out and also tells you what Pokemon they're going to use. It's like being given the Golden Tanooki Leaf but instead of being able to just walk around it you need to manually get rid of it ever time.
I hate how people defend a step backwards in QOL like this, especially when it was in literally every game prior.
