Cinderace's interactions with Goh (being like a little brother who looks up to Goh since he was a Scorbunny) and Ash's Lucario (good friend and rival) also helped a lot to remove Cinderace's "stigma" of being yet another furry waifubait and nothing else.

I agree, anon.

The cat's clothing-like attributes look more integrated into the design, and not just literal clothing, like Cinderace's shorts and crest/whatever is in its head.

Plus, the color scheme looks more natural, while Cinder's have always clashed IMO, which makes the aforementioned clothings stand out even more.

Cinderace has a really weird design so I don't blame you. Its face and arms are the same color as its torso, so the intended illusion of it wearing a tshirt doesn't work since it looks like it's going topless. The legs are too straight and looks like stupid L's when it should have been a digitrade. It has a bunch of details on its face and legs/feet when the mid part of the body is really bland. Not to mention its arms+hands are shaped like a dildo. In comparison, Gato is much more balanced and has better limbs, hands and a more balanced amount of details.

While the SV trio obviously have their "human job" basis and are designed to evoke that image, they're also not so blatant and distinct that it's the only thing you can see. That there's just a cat anthro with some fancy looks. The Galar trio on the other hand are pretty cut and dry, Cinderace is very obviously a footie player.

Cinderace, I just don't see any kind of basis for. Rabbits are sometimes stereotyped as athletic, I guess? But even then, the football theme is very unusual.

I hate both designs, but I do agree the cat is more tolerable. Here’s why, how I see it: first, the rabbit anatomy just looks more human. It has plantigrade legs, like a person, its clothing is more obvious, and it just looks more like a person in a fursuit.

Second, the rabbit is far more obviously a jobmon. It looks and acts like a soccer player, which is an awfully specific set of characteristics for an entire species to have. The cat, on the other hand, is kind of vaguely magical, but I’m not sure this is expressed in a super obvious, on-the-nose way. Plus, most Pokémon are “magical” in some way or another, so it doesn’t feel totally out of place.

Still don’t like the thing, and the increasingly anthro starters fucking suck, but that’s my thinking on the matter
