Idk how you guys are playing but after refusing to use items in battle or switch when prompted, it's pretty tough. Sad that Set Mode was removed. People always asked for difficulty modes, but SV actually gives the bosses some decent teams. If there was just a mode that disabled item use in battle and kept it on set mode, then that'd be serviceable enough without needing to make things on par with a romhack. The fights are actually fun this way.

The fact that most trainer battles are optional is a big plus, it allows you both to avoid over-levelling and also grind easily if required.

Felt weird having the champion test and exam. Was like is all of this just a standard test they give students or is it actually a big deal in the game world

Like the adults are they actually trying to even beat you or do they want you to win

Idk just would all have been better along with this end game plot if we were a bit older

I just wish it wasn't a school setting, they should have kept the trainers around the same age they were in Sword and Shield and just framed it as a regular pokemon adventure.
Not sure how you'd incorporate all the Team Star and school related stuff that way but I still would have preferred it.

Target audience. Same reason anime characters are 20 or lower. If they're above 20, they're already an old folk.

I had to revive one of my pokemon to make sure I won the fight. My biggest issue I had with her fight was that I kept trying to figure out what type all of this shit was. I knew some of the paradox pokemon types, but not the other half of her team. I thought Sandy Shocks was steel and I sat there with clown makeup on when it wasn't.

Based. Accidentally overlevelled in midgame so I stopped grinding and using items. Final boss was one of the best story mode fights I've had, took me a couple tries

Anon. Every single Pokemon game has that mode. It's called self-control. You just choose not to use them and they're no longer a factor, just like you'd choose to enable the option in the first place.

It was a decent challenge. Honestly felt like I could have lost if I wasn’t careful with Roaring Moon. My team didn’t have a real answer to it, and I was somewhat underleveled.

I really love the paradox mon, in general. The madmen actually made fanservice nonsense versions of existing mon. It’s neat.

Your starter Pokemon in this game is Koraidon essentially. Even the "Koraidon toughed it out so you wouldn't feel sad" doesn't feel out of place.

Jesus Christ that's exactly what I explained I was doing. The problem is that most people don't even think about how much shift mode affects the experience, or how GF removing Set further removes the singleplayer experience from the multiplayer experience completely unnecessarily. Your brain interprets denying the switch as an objectively bad decision nearly every time you see the prompt. You're talking about one decision, turning the game to Set Mode, versus hundreds, denying shift every time you're given the option. Passive versus active. Imagine if you had to hit LB in Halo every time you met an Elite's line of sight in order to active its good AI. Nobody would find that acceptable except for Pokemon fans. You also get to know what pokemon is coming next which objectively removes part of the game's ability to surprise on a first playthrough

Of course its the 20s-40s but Gamefreak want to get the younger audience. A game about school is a great way to have this audience. Its the same reason why Yugioh anime is targeted for kids instead of adult. About 2 (5D and Vrains) were specifically targeted for the older audience while every other yugioh is for the teens and kids, including the Season Zero and Atem's anime.
