It's over. There is no way they will deliver good pokemon game ever again. They literally forget to include things that fans of the series include in the hacks. They fucked up many features. They hate pokemon, they hate video games, and you should not support this shit company.

Doubtful. Houser Brothers are gone, Lazlow Jones is gone, RDR2 was basically their final "hurrah!" before exiting the AAA game industry. GTA V had so much SOVL and I doubt Rockstar is going to be able to re-capture it in GTA 6.

BotW was a masterclass in open world game and interface design, its integrated systems are now being taught in schools for game design for how seamlessly the games complex enviornmental systems were integrated. You may not like it, but it wasn't a bad game.

It’s not. If we really want to get into BotW here on /vp/, it’s a game that feels great but is completely hollow. Open world games have had such shit traversal for so long that BotW managed to trick everyone into looking at their feet for dozens of hours and missing that there was nothing to actually do in the game. Shrines ripping you out of the world ended up feeling repetitive both in appearance and general layout. There’s nothing whatsoever to find in the world but Korok seeds. Enemies are extremely recycled. Side quests are all MMO fetch shit. There are no real dungeons and the beasts are no substitution. Story was pretty awkwardly handled. The final boss was a miss.

I look at BotW as a proof of concept and genuinely hope the sequel fixes all its problems. But I think as a game it’s very middling and almost entirely propped up by the fact that it has solid mechanics. But solid mechanics and a sandbox don’t make a good game. They make a tech demo.

Nobody is saying BotW is a flawless game, but its issues are simply not enough to discount it as a bad game. And it's not "hollow", in fact I would argue its the closest we've ever gotten to a fully realized open world. I agree, lack of real dungeons is a legitimate criticism, but at the same time I have a weird feeling this was an intentional design choice. The core design philosiphy is centered around how much fat you can trim until you streamline the experience in such a way that you only have the games core mechanics tied together.

What does this even mean. It’s empty praise. Being able to climb rocks doesn’t make something fully realized. Hyrule had nothing to do in it. What was realized. There are legitimately more things to discover and find in Scarlet & Violet’s world and that’s not praise for Pokémon either.

Fuck are you on about, Minecraft alone blows BoTW out of the water. TES games outdo BoTW too in terms of being open world.
BoTW was a proof of concept tech demo. There was hardly any game behind it, and I say that as someone who's replayed BoTW 4 times.

After 100%ing BotW the first time, I immediately wanted to replay Wind Waker, and doing so gave me much more enjoyment in the 15-20 hours I played than the 100+ hours I played BotW. Frank, I even think I enjoyed Skyward Sword more.

*Fuck, I forgot to bring up the story. Probably the most boring one out of any 3D Zelda game. None of the characters gave me any kind of investment (except the ones I wanted to fuck), and Zelda in particular just pissed me off every step of the way, especially during the ending phase.

To tie it back to Pokemon, though. I'd say this has been a recurring issue with many recent Nintendo games, but especially SwSh and PLA.

everyone I've talked to playing it likes it a lot. Mechanically the best game in a long time. Easily better than the rest of the 3D entries they say. Leakers all say it's good. It'll probably review well even if it has technical problems.

Looks much better than PLA, looks better than a lot of other games on the system. For a Switch game it's not bad at all.

Now, is this game BotW? No, but that was a once in a generation thing they spent 5 actual years making. We only get games like that once every few years.

Anon, you have to understand, a HUGE portion of 4chans userbase are actually, clinically autistic. People with autism have trouble processing and understanding nuance, hence they tend to use hyperbole and false-dilemma fallacy when articulating their opinions. Wind Waker has an island with something to find in every fucking tile what are you talking about. There’s exponentially more shit to see and do in Wind Waker on top of having a full set of actual dungeons. Hell, the individual major islands are teeming with life and things to do and find. BotWs biggest and most inhabited villages still have nothing going on. This is a journey vs destination argument. Wind Walker’s sailing has less moment to moment engaging gameplay during overworks traversal but the locations you get to are full of discovery. BotW is the exact opposite. Fun to move around but there’s nothing to find. If you took BotW and put it in WWs world and filled up the ocean I’d love the game
