whoever says any of the DS games had the best interface can leave right now. A good interface doesn't need literally two screens to just to do everything a single screen can.

PLA's is the most stylish. The inkbrush backing to the healthbar is nice, and the letterboxing during battles adds a little bit of tension. I really enjoy that.

The action commands are easy to use, but a bit clunky in organization. Plus side, is you rarely have to scroll, and most options are a quick 1 button command.

SV's is probably second place, as it's very clean. A lot of the others look too colorful and cartoony for my taste. Too toy like.

Because they actually went hard af on the shading and texturing to make it look nice and then retards and boomers said it "looked like a mobile game" and shat all over it so they stopped trying

Either XY or HGSS for handhelds. Those games had very comfortable control setup with everything being built into the home screen.

pla - the best one. it's perfect.

I like most of them, but I especially liked Gen 7 having all the relevant information on the touch screen along with the little sprites, it felt like a really good use of the hardware
I guess I'm in the minority of people who don't like the PLA UI though, I think the combination of "classical" calligraphy and clean modern buttons feels weird and anachronistic. It works well in the "Agile / Strong Style" text that appears on screen since it fits the traditional martial arts theme, but using it on the buttons feels like overkill to me. Surprised it's so popular here

Now that you mention it, it seems like a counter-intuitive change to make - switching Pokemon and using items can also be considered "battle" actions that are distinct from "fighting". They even call things like the X Attack "battle items".

It's the controls. Out of all of the ones shown in OP, it and the DS/3DS games are the only ones where the buttons are mapped to a command or can simply be tapped on rather than having to scroll through a list. However, you still have to scroll through moves and Pokémon in PLA unlike in Stadium where even that is one button.

sv is the worst because we are 25+ years in and there is yet to be a game that doesnt show the run button during trainer battles, the worst ui will continuously be updated to be the most recent game in the series until they change this, this is why lgpe has the best ui (not really its b2w2 and sm but lgpe is close)
