Not to mention that Moonblast is an insanely powerful move with the chance of an added effect with absolutely no draw back. Fairy is just a super spammable offensive type with moves that reliably hit. And that's on top of everything else that it has going for it

Also Fairy stole Ice's originally intended niche by doing their job but better.
It's safe to assume that ice/bug,/dragon/dark/fightingfags don't particularly like the type.

Biggest thing they did was make it so dragons couldn’t just dance up some boosts and spam outrage with no drawbacks. Good type offensively and defensively and generally carries with it some good stat spreads and move pools

This needs to be emphasized more. Back then they weren't bad like normal and grass and bug are usually considered, they were so bad very often they weren't even used as STABs.
They however caused much collateral damage to types that didn't deserve it.

I like the fire resistence but really fire doesn't need more offensive presence and make poison and steel even more offensively redent. Fairy should be weak to bug, psychic or grass. Also grass and ice should resisit it
