>>52164293>CannibalizedYeah...about that...The company wasn't really "cannibalized" so to speak. A handful of members of staff were cherry picked (James Turner being a good example) to destabilize it and take anything they thought might have been of value, then GF pulled the license for spinoff Pokemon games away from GS completely, the company was left for dead after that. When it happened was right around the end of BR, if I recall. They also produced Stadium and Stadium 2 under a different name, by the way.
Supposedly, (at least according to people in the industry at the time) GF was pissed off about Colosseum and their rage just built after the release of Gale of Darkness. BR was a direct response to this anger, GF effectively went through the Pokemon Company and asked them after GoD to tone down what they were doing, so GS made BR and it was still too over the top for GF. The rage they had over Colosseum more or less boiled down to: "We thought you were just going to do another Stadium, why is this a whole game?" They didn't like that GS was making spinoff games that were more or less almost actual real Pokemon games and GoD was where they put their foot down. Supposedly, the biggest issue they took with the GS games was that they were better than the games GF was making and they were terrified it was eclipsing their work just on quality alone. But that detail is still sort of rumor more than anything. Either way, GF more or less killed GS by going through TPC.
After they gutted the company a little and left them to die, GS still made games. Just not Pokemon games. I think their staff eventually went on to form ArtePiazza, if I recall. And that little company made some nice stuff. But eventually they all just left both companies due to low funding. Most of the people left in the company after a point were working pro bono. Eventually, in 2015, they were allowed to go back to making spinoff Pokemon games. But the game was Shuffle. And then Cafe Mix in 2020.
